Chinese or Mandarin
Recognized as the most dominant language of East Asia, it is not only spoken by 95% of the people estimated to be more than 1 billion in China. It is also spoken by immigrants in South East Asia and America and is believed to be the most widely spoken language throughout the world mainly China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia. .
It is mainly spoken by the world’s largest human heterogeneous ethnic group in China called Han Chinese or simply Chinese. Linguists view Chinese as a family of languages comprising of various forms and varieties and belongs to Sino-Tibetan family of languages.
Standard Mandarin also known as Standard Chinese is the standardized, official and modern spoken Chinese language. It is based on Beijing dialect and one of the six official languages of United Nations. Its writing systems and vocabulary also contains words from Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese. An interesting fact is written and spoken Chinese language holds a complex relationship and evolution of both have not been at the same pace. Its popularity can be estimated by the fact that in 18th century half of the books printed in the world were in Chinese language.
