Dutch
It is a West Germanic language and falls under Indo – European language family. It is the official language of Netherlands. This is the reason it is also called Netherlandic. It has about 20 million speakers mainly inhabitants of Netherland and Belgium. It is derived from the words Dietsc, or Duutsc which means ‘language of the people’.
Dutch grammar is related to German language in some ways but also have close genetic relation to English. It has simplified considerably over the last century. A large vocabulary of Dutch is from German origin and Scandinavian languages and like these language Dutch has the extraordinary capability to join words together to form very long words. Dutch has very large vocabulary and is considered one of the largest of all languages in the world. It is basically a stress language where the stress position of the words is important. Dutch is written in Latin alphabet. An interesting fact is that it has somewhat high proportion of occurrence of double letters be it consonants or vowels as compared to other languages. Dutch vowel sounds are difficult and therefore this language can pose pronunciation problems and proves to be tricky to non-native speakers. This might also be considered as a reason that this language is not stretched across the globe.
