French (Canada)
It is one of the two official languages of Canada other being English and is spoken by more than 23% of people in Canada as their primary language. In the province of Quebec, French is the only official language. Some European languages and others like Arabic, Vietnamese etc. are also spoken in Canada. Canadian French is the general terms used for varieties of French spoken in Canada.
French in Canada exists in two varieties called Acadian and French-Canadian which differs only in terms of accents. Besides these two, Newfoundland French is also spoken by a minority of population and is considered an endangered dialect. They are different from standard French which is spoken in France and varies substantially in pronunciation and vocabulary. In 18th century, Canadian French was considered original but it began to diverge from Parisian French as English influence grew stronger after 1760s. Due to which, vocabulary and syntax has had greater impact of English language. In terms of linguistic features, it is less clearly articulated with less lip movement.
