Greek

It is one of the oldest of Indo - European family of languages and is a well documented language. It is estimated to be spoken by around 15 million people in Greece and 700,000 people in Cyprus and is official language of both the countries. It is also spoken widely in many other parts of the world. Greek is based on Greek alphabets which has the credit to introduce vowels for the first time. It is written from left to right horizontally like English.

Classical Greek philosophy and literature has significant value and profound effect on Western culture. Poetry, play, history; in all forms, Greek literature has made its mark and is a source of inspiration for many till today. Evidence of its historic significance can be found in the written monuments and baked mud tablets in syllabic script known as Linear B with a consonant-vowel combo in each symbol. Since it’s a very old language, it is often classified as ancient and modern Greek. Changes in pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary are responsible for this classification. Dialects and accents vary according to the regions in Greece but it limited to spoken language and is rarely used in written Greek.
