Hungarian



Language of the people of Hungary, it is one of the interest generating language among the linguist due to its atypical classification of Finno-Ugric group of languages. Most of the European languages belong to Indo – European family of languages. It is based on modified Latin alphabets. Total number of its speakers is estimated to be around 14 million mainly in Hungary and Hungarian people living in neighboring countries.

Unlike English, the order of the word is not fixed and importance of the word is determined by the sequence with which it occurs. It is an agglutinative language which means that letters are added to words as prefix, suffix or circumfix to describe meaning or grammatical relation. This characteristic of a language makes determining the vocabulary size difficult. Hungarian called Magyar in Hungary is an expressive, interesting and idiom-rich language with many words common with Uralic languages but grammar which is somewhat complex is closely related to Finnish. It doesn’t used prepositions, however postpositions are used. It has phonemic orthography which means it can be read with predictable pronunciation from written language easily. Hungarian literature origin dates back to 12th and 13th century and first book published in 1527.
