Azerbaijani

It is the official language of the Republic of Azerbaijan and is spoken by around 30 million people primarily in Azerbaijan and Iran and some other neighboring countries. Azeri, Azari, Azeri Turkish, Azerbaijani Turkish are some of the alternate names which are used. It is classified as a Turkic language of the Oghuz branch and historically it has been influenced by Arabic and Persian. Although it has large number of speakers, dialects do not vary to a great extent. It is written using different scripts: Latin in Azerbaijan, Arabic in Iran whereas Cyrillic is also used.

Vowels are very commonly used in Azerbaijani language and are categorized as hard and soft vowels. Although many words of Arabic have become part of Azerbaijani vocabulary, they are phonetically pronounced with Azerbaijani characters. Nouns can be singular or plural but they do not have gender. Verbs can have moods, tenses and person. Sentence is usually constructed with the Subject-Object-Verb pattern unlike English.
