Sanskrit is a sacred language in Hinduism and Indian Buddhism which means properly/beautifully crafted or grammatically refined language. It is the language of classical Indian literature and is considered as the language of Gods. It is one of the old languages; classified as Indo-European family of languages and is the official language of Nepal and one of the 22 official languages of India. The number of fluent Sanskrit speakers is estimated to be around 49,736.
Classical Sanskrit language was grammatically coded and laid out by a well-known grammarian of its time called Panini around 5th century. His work for the basis of modern Sanskrit grammars and due to his extensive and comprehensive work, Sanskrit is considered is said to be based on the most scientific grammar produced around 19th century. The script used to write Sanskrit language is called Devanagari. Sanskrit has influenced most Indian languages and many use Sanskrit vocabulary base. Efforts towards the revival of Sanskrit are being made among which authorities has made it third optional language in Indian schools. Sanskrit is also used in naming scientific and technological developments and discoveries in India. This is synonymous to Latin and Greek influence on Western languages.
